Yanney who died on August 18, 2009, while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. Yanney, 20, of Litchfield, MN; assigned to the 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, WA; died Aug. 18 in Arghandab, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when an IED detonated near his unit. The explosion killed him and another soldier, Spc. Troy O. Tom, 21, Shiprock, NM. Yanney and Tom’s unit was en route to help another unit under fire. He is survived by his mother, Jane Kuhn Yanney; his father, Russ; his brother, Josh; his grandparents, Catherine and John Kuhn, and John Powell; his great grandmother Perkins; and several aunts and uncles.
